While hundreds of people in Chicago recently protested the deployment of around 500 National Guard troops, protestors here rallied at Milwaukee’s Cathedral Square, calling for the removal of those troops and immigration agents.
Voces De La Frontera gathered demonstrators at Cathedral Square Park to make their demand of ‘Hands Off Chicago.’
Protestors in both cities say the president is escalating aggression by sending soldiers to support immigrations and customs enforcement agents.
Arrests, raids and protests happen daily as the number of immigration agents have drastically increased since the beginning of September.
Three hundred soldiers are from Illinois’s own National Guard and 200 more are from Texas.
U.S. Northern Command has said the troops are there to protect federal agents by securing perimeters, doing crowd control and deescalating situations.
The troops can detain people but will not make arrests.
